Well, it has officially been over a week since we left on our U.S. tour! Time is flying by and we have had back-to-back shoots starting with 4 days of coverage for an amazing wedding weekend at the breathtaking Gasparilla Inn on Gasparilla Island in Boca Grande. This family really knew how to throw a wedding and certainly wore us out! Check out our Wedding Coverage Information Page if you need coverage for your wedding.
We stayed at the Harbor Lakes RV Resort in Port Charlotte. The park was incredibly clean and had awesome amenities like a heated swimming pool, hot tub, gym, pool tables, shuffleboard courts, recreation hall, and more.
We made the mistake of visiting the Warm Mineral Springs Park one afternoon while there. The park is famous for the original fountain of youth that was discovered by the very vain Ponce De Leon on his quest for the secret to staying forever young and ultimately lead to the discovery of and settlement of Florida. We found this to be an incredibly interesting story, so we really wanted to go. It was like taking a step back in time. The place was incredibly run down and dirty and while it’s supposed to be one of the most mineral rich springs in the country the smell was pretty intense and the waters murky. We did get a ton of good laughs and named it the turd bath. It just wasn’t for us. 10/10 do not recommend lol!
We had a fun overnight stay boon docking using Harvest Host at Lane Southern Orchards in Georgia. The food was nice and there was a great little gift shop. We picked our own fresh strawberries on the farm. When the sun set, we took a walk down a dirt road between the peach trees and ended the evening having a local craft beer we purchased from the gift shop.
I used to live in the White Station neighborhood of Memphis so getting to spend a bit of time there was quite nostalgic. Of course, I wanted to visit my old neighborhood and go to some of Memphis’s most famous landmarks, restaurants, and tourist destinations. We stayed at Tom Sawyers RV Park which is right over the bridge in West Memphis (Arkansas), tucked away in a wooded little area along the Mississippi River. In the morning as the we watched the sunrise as we got to see gorgeous riverboats rolling down the river to New Orleans.
The first night we had dinner at Silky O’ Sullivan’s on Beal Street, known for its live music and it’s crazy goat yard with live goats. We took a stroll around Cooper Young (the college town for University of Memphis) and visited The Beauty Shop, an old salon where Pricilla Presley used to have her hair done, now turned into a fabulous restaurant that serves up amazing breakfast. They still have the old sinks and hair dryers… super clever.
The following day we took the opportunity to take a short excursion in a riverboat down the Mississippi followed by dinner at the Commissary. The Commissary is voted one of the very best places in Memphis to have dinner and they never disappoint. The portions are large and they have perfected their skills in the world of BBQ. Michael loved it and he’s quite the picky eater.
On our last day we took a half day to visit the Memphis Zoo. It’s one of my favorite zoos because I love how all of the buildings match the countries the animals represent, its super clean and the zoo does a ton for community outreach, animal education and research. We really enjoyed it.
Our evening fashion shoot was in the South Main neighborhood famous for the Lorraine Motel (and now The National Civil Rights Museum) where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, an emotional and powerful must see landmark. We started at the Newley renovated Central Station Hotel that used to be an old railway station. It’s absolutely stunning! We then headed over to the very famous Arcade restaurant where anybody who’s anybody goes to enjoy the area’s best breakfast. Their celebrity list is miles long just like the line to get in the door in the morning!
We ended the evening getting dramatic shots in country fields on the outskirts of the city.
